Blended ESL

PIRS is a not-for-profit organization that provides programs for immigrant women and their
preschool children. We are looking for an ESL teacher with demonstrated experience teaching
ESL/Parenting programs.
This is a part-time position teaches
Vancouver. Monday and Wednesday 9:15
meeting time per term at a $12/hour. Starting salary is $29.34 per hour plus 4% holiday pay.
This position is subject to a 3 months probation period.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assess, in conjunction with the Support Worker, the language and information needs of
the participants;
• Develop and implement curriculum and lesson plans to meet participants’ needs;
• Create a supportive and positive learning environment;
• Evaluate and document the participants’ needs on an ongoing basis and adjust the
teaching plan accordingly;
• Seek out ways to involve participants in planning and evaluation;
• Promote the development of friendshi

• Promote cross-cultural sharing among participants;
• Plan for guest speakers, workshops, field trips and special events in consultation with
other program staff;
• Participate in a team approa
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Training and experience teaching English as a second language to adults;
• Ability to speak and write English fluently;
• Familiarity with parenting philosophies and programs;
• Familiarity of resources and organizations relating to seniors;
• Sensitivity to and understanding of the needs of immigrant seniors and their families;
• Ability to work in a team setting;
• Ability to work with and direct volunteers;
