Maximising Progress
Date: Tuesday 11 March 2014
Time: 1000 - 1500
This event will focus on:
Structures and systems to ensure that staff focus on maximising progress for students
Details of work to be shared:
The work came out of a desire to adopt a whole-school approach to maximising student progress. De Ferrers had a range of measures in place, but these were not linked and there was little accountability. As a result, whilst we were “data rich”, this information was not being used effectively. Consequently, interventions tended to be reactive and focused essentially on Y11.
The review of structures and systems shifted the focus from percentages to individual students and the impact of additional work that was being done with them. This necessitated a review of the meeting cycle and all middle leadership job roles. We undertook a radically different approach to data to increase accountability for student performance and focus on specific interventions and their impact. As a result parents/carers now receive 6 reports on their child’s progress each year, and the system has been tailored to meet the different requirements of KS5 students.
Agenda:
Introduction – Steve Allen
Meeting cycle/Job roles – Nick Holmes & Alison Bickle
Faculty Action Meetings – Craig Brown & Nicola Townsend
Tour/Progress Boards
Reporting system – Micky O’Hare
Discussion with middle leaders about the changed approach
