Great Memories while growing up at OSD back in the late 60's - early 70's, there was a daily comic script on Lil' Abner, and I was always following its one-liners and antics of their redneck sorts :)

I also recall seeing a TV showing, believe it was sort of a "musical" type of tv showing on prime time hour, (no captions back then, made for alot of guesswork on us kids trying to follow their leads and making sense of their antics.

Ive never seen the Lil Abner TV show surface ever again after that....

Wonder why? Anyone know? OR were TV executives quite prudish about their redneck dresswear?

Roadie
----- Original Message -----
From: OklaMeltingPot@aol.com
To: OMPDeafNews@yahoogroups.com
Sent: Thursday, November 04, 2010 12:19 PM
Subject: [OMPDeafNews] remember the time we had this at OSD ...smile

November 6—Sadie Hawkins Day
Not a typical holiday, this holiday is the invention of Al Capp, creator of the Li'l Abner comic strip. On this day, unmarried ladies could pursue (literally) their men; if caught, marriage was unavoidable. The idea took off in real-life. A black bear approached our cow herd which turned out to be a very big mistake on his part.

The blonde and white Simmental cow we know as I-12. She is a very good cow, a very attentive mother and about 12 years old. She's in her prime and knows that bears are bad news. She went right for him and tried her best to mash him into the ground. A younger cow, R-55, an Angus-Cross cow, age 7, is helping her out as best she can. It is an incredible photo to see two cows at once trying to crush the bear. There are a couple of photos where the bear is biting I-12's leg and clawing her face but she is not giving up Her stiff tail shows how agitated she is. Wayne said all the cows were bawling, the bear was squealing, the calves were running around with their tails in the air. Finally, the bear decided to vacate the area. We thought he'd be dead for sure, but there was no sign of him the next day. We'll have to keep an eye out for eagles in the trees or flocks of ravens flying up. We're sure he's got some broken ribs out of the deal at the very least.

I looked up the calving records of both cows who are so aggressive in these photos and they are both good, calm cows around us and have given us no troubles whatsoever. I'll have to add in my notes that they have a very distinct dislike of bears.

We'll be watching I-12 over the next few days to see if she needs treatment for infection. I don't know how willingly she'll come to the corrals for treatment, but she might not have a choice.

Wayne couldn't believe his eyes when he witnessed this ruckus. This is another once-in-a-lifetime photography event to add to all the others he managed to document this summer. It is amazing.

Subject: Very Mad Cows fight with black bear

:

A couple of evenings ago, Wayne went out to check the cows and saw a very strange sight and was able to photograph the event. Well I'll be dipped!!!

What's all that padded stuff affixed to her body, underneath her dress? Could it be?? Nooooo way.

Well, after the dress was removed, loooookeeee what we have here Grandma!!
Why it's 10.45 pounds of marijuana strapped to her body.

Can we blame her, after all, she's probably just supplementing her United States Social Security check she picks up monthly at her P.O. box on the American side.

And one can't help but wonder how many of these trips has she already made
across the border, toting 10 1/2 pounds of marijuana daily.

Hang it up lady, as it's time for you to retire permanently in El Reno at of course-the U.S. tax payers expense? It takes time to investigate.
The string of announcements also doesn’t necessarily mean the U.S. attorney
’s office has only recently pursued possible American Disability Act
violations, he said. The office takes the matter seriously, and has reached
other settlements in the past that probably didn’t receive as much media
attention, he said.
“We’ve always considered ADA matters important,â€ Farley said. “When they
regard getting access to health care, they are especially important. It
can mean the difference between getting the right care and the wrong care.
The complaints were unrelated, Farley said, but carried the same charge:
People were denied service or medical treatment because their disabilities
weren’t considered.
A concerned resident filed the complaint against the town of Wolfeboro,
the U.S. attorney’s office said. On Friday, the town agreed to make a number
of changes to improve parking areas, sidewalks, restrooms and other
features at town facilities so they’ll be accessible to individuals with
disabilities.
On Monday, Frisbie Memorial Hospital in Rochester agreed it would better
determine the needs of deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals and then provide
them with appropriate auxiliary aids and services, including American Sign
Language interpreters.
The two complainants will also receive a $35,000 settlement from the
hospital. The couple had alleged they were denied proper medical treatment
because they couldn’t fully communicate with hospital staff.
Last month, St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua reached a similar agreement with
the federal government, as did the city’s other hospital, Southern New
Hampshire Medical Center, in July.
St. Joseph also erased the $10,000 medical bill of two deaf people and
their children after they had alleged the hospital and its medical practice
umbrella, St. Joseph Physician Services, gave inadequate medical treatment
because they didn’t provide ASL interpreters.
SNHMC agreed to pay a hearing-impaired patient $5,000 following a similar
allegation.
Both Nashua hospitals agreed they would implement a program to ensure
effective communication for deaf and hard-of-hearing patients, including access
to ASL interpreters.
Concord Hospital entered the same agreement in 2008. None of the four
hospitals admitted liability.
Farley said the U.S. attorney’s office is working with other hospitals on
similar allegations, but declined to say how many.
“This is not to just enforce the law, but to also educate about the
importance of the ADA, Farley said.
And who settles is less important than how they follow and don’t follow
the ADA, he said.
“Say you have got a deaf parent with a 10-year-old child who can hear fine,
â€ Farley said. “Sometimes, the thinking on the part of these folks in the
doctor’s office is that, ‘Well, your daughter can interpret for you.’
“But do you want your daughter breaking news that you’ve got cancer, and
breaking complicated news, at that? If you have a hearing barrier, it’s a
challenge to take it all in.
Albert McKeon can be reached at 594-5832 or amckeon@nashuatelegraph.com.

**********************
THANKSGIVING

Let us remember that, as much has been given us, much will be expected
from us, and that true homage comes from the heart as well as from the lips,
and shows itself in deeds.
~Theodore Roosevelt

Messages in this topic (1)
________________________________________________________________________
________________________________________________________________________
23.
